We have been brainwashed by companies that skimmed milk is healthier than whole milk. Contrary to popular belief, skimmed milk won’t help you lose weight or stay slim!

We explain why you should opt for organic whole milk from grass-fed cows (with natural amount of fat and no processing or removal of fat) rather than processed skimmed or toned milk

  • Skimmed milk is made by removing essential fats from whole milk. In this process, nutrients such as vitamin A and D are also reduced.
  • To make up for nutrient loss, companies fortify skimmed milk with added nutrients especially vitamins A, D. However, benefits to your body from added / synthetic nutrients are lower than those from naturally available nutrients in whole milk.
  • Vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E and K found in milk are fat soluble – they require good fats present in whole milk to be absorbed properly. Thus, absorption of these vitamins in skimmed milk is poor compared to whole milk.
  • Fat in whole milk slows down absorption of lactose in our body. In skimmed milk, there is fast delivery of lactose and milk sugars into the body leading to insulin spike and sugar craving.
  • Whole milk makes us feel satiated and moderates our appetite naturally! Because skimmed milk is processed it leaves us feeling unsatisfied, leading to intake of higher quantity of skimmed milk or junk food.
  • We should always opt for organic whole milk - organic means that the cows haven't been given hormones / antibiotics / chemicals in order to increase milk production unnaturally as these hormones enter into our body through the milk and create havoc with our health.
  • Also, for best impact on your health, we should opt for milk from cows which are fed grass which is their natural diet leading to higher beneficial omega 3 fat and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content as compared to cows which are fed grains (mostly soy and corn).
